Frequently Asked Questions

Rent-A-Local - FAQs

The Who, What, Where, When, Why.. and More!

How many people can attend a tour?
Any number of people can attend a tour. Our largest van can accomodate up to 14 passengers. Up to 3 people can tour in our Jeep. For smaller tours we use our 7-passenger mini-van.
Can my children come along?
Sure! Everyone is welcome. Kids two and under are free. Unless you are focusing on kid-friendly attractions like beaches, shave ice, etc. we recommend our tours for those six years old and up. Check with your hotel concierge if you need babysitting services. Most hotels can accommodate your needs.
I have a rental car. Can we tour in that?
Yes, but your local will need to be added to the rental car's insurance agreement. Just let us know that's what you want and we will take care of the details.
Where do you pick us up?
We pick you up wherever you are staying. Most of the time, that's your Waikiki hotel, but we can pick you up wherever you are on the island.
We have another activity planned on the same day as our Rent-A-Local tour. Can you guarantee to be back by a certain time?
Our locals know O'ahu's roads well and unless there are extenuating circumstances, like a traffic accident, they will have you back on time.
What is your cancellation/refund policy?
Cancellation fees are $50 for half-day tours and $100 for full day tours for cancellations made more than 48 hours before the scheduled start of your tour. Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the start of your tour but before the day of your tour are subject to a 50% fee. No refunds are given for tours cancelled on the day they are to take place.
Something came up on the day of my scheduled tour. Can it be rescheduled?
Fees are not charged for changes made more than seven days from the date of the original tour. Rescheduling fees are $25 for half-day tours and $50 for full-day tours for changes within seven days. Rescheduling is subject to availability.
Are your locals screened? What about the vehicles?
Yes, we do extensive background checks on all our locals. Our locals must have clean criminal & driving records. Also, they must be CPR certified and must pass a first-aid course. All our vehicles are properly registered & insured and well-maintained.
What should I bring on my tour?
Temperaures in Hawaii are generally warm year round. We recommend dressing in casual, comfortable attire. Please wear comfortable shoes. If you are hiking, please wear sturdy shoes good for trails.

Bring your camera.

Sadly, certain areas of Hawaii are prone to car break-ins and theft. Please do not plan on leaving anything of value in your touring vehicle.
Do I need to tip my local?
Our locals love to receive tips as a sign of a job well done! Of course, tips are always optional, never required.

Please contact us for more information or if your question has not been answered. We love to hear from you!
